Tobacco

No tobacco sign

Tobacco products are products made wholly or partly from tobacco leaves, and are intended to be smoked, sucked, chewed or sniffed. All contain a powerful psychoactive principle, nicotine, which can easily cause addiction.
The use of tobacco is one of the major risk factors for a number of chronic diseases, including cancer, pulmonary disease and cardiovascular disease. Nevertheless, it is common throughout the world. A number of countries have legislation that restricts advertising about tobacco regulation on who can buy and use tobacco products, and where people can smoke.

Because smoking is a problem for non-smokers?

There are about 4000 known chemicals in tobacco smoke, more than 50 of them are known to cause cancer in humans. Local ventilation not in the cigarette smoke is inhaled by everyone, exposing both smokers and non smokers to its harmful effects.
According to the International Labor Organization, 200 000 workers die every year because of exposure to passive smoking at work. The WHO estimates that approximately 700 million children, almost half of all children in the world, breathe air polluted by tobacco smoke.
Neither ventilation nor filtration, even when applied in combination, can reduce exposure to tobacco smoke indoors to levels that are considered acceptable. Only the presence of "no smoking" may be an effective protection. Contrary to common belief, those "no smoking" is widely supported by both smokers and non smokers.
Having smoke-free environment often saves money for the owners of bars and restaurants, reducing the risk of fire and, consequently, the cost of insurance. This often results in lower restructuring costs, cleaning and maintenance.
Article 8 of the Convention on Tobacco Control, recognizes that exposure to tobacco smoke causes death, disease and disability, and calls on countries to adopt and implement legislation that provides protection against passive smoking.
